Animals and Health
A relationship that strengthens us, improving our health and wellbeing
Since ancient times, people have developed deep and meaningful bonds with animals
This relationship is not only a source of companionship, but also has a direct impact on our health and wellbeing, as well as that of our animals.
Living with animals improves quality of life, prolongs longevity, and preserves physical and mental balance. By sharing our lives with them, we experience tangible benefits, such as reduced stress, decreased depression and increased self-esteem.
Caring for an animal forces us to assume responsibilities that keep us active and engaged, fostering a greater sense of security and wellbeing.
In addition, this emotional exchange not only enriches our emotions, but also strengthens family and social cohesion, creating an environment where everyone can thrive.

What are animal-assisted therapies?
Animal-assisted interventions are therapeutic and educational practices where a professional is accompanied by an animal to improve people’s physical, emotional and social health.
These therapies have proven to be effective, benefiting people with mental health problems, patients in hospitals and people at risk of social exclusion, among others.
Programmes that transform lives
Through our animal-assisted therapy programmes, we work with dogs and cats to support the emotional and physical wellbeing of people in various vulnerable situations. From hospitals and mental health centres to nursing homes and educational centres, our programmes are designed to improve quality of life, relieve stress and promote recovery.
Find out how our therapies positively impact the lives of thousands of people and how interaction with animals can become a tool for healing and support.
Therapy team
The success of our therapy programmes is due to the dedication of an extraordinary team, led by Maribel Vila, whose commitment has been key in the growth of our initiatives. She, along with our therapists and our incredible dogs, plays an essential role in transforming lives.
All work tirelessly, playing key roles in providing support, improving people’s quality of life and showing the power of the human-animal bond. 20 dogs and 3 cats were carefully selected to take part in the therapies, and were trained for this purpose, always using positive reinforcement and ensuring their wellbeing.
Our own intervention model
The Affinity Foundation is a pioneer in the development of Animal-Assisted Therapies. Our model is based on:
- Taking an interdisciplinary approach to working with professionals from health or education centres to create a team and contribute knowledge
- High ethical standards when working with people and animals
- Disseminating the benefits of the bond for each one of our interventions through campaigns to promote the human-animal bond
- Evaluating our therapy programmes, through our Chair and in collaboration with the centre teams, to experience the benefits of the bond with animals first-hand
