Located at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona [Autonomous University of Barcelona] (UAB), the chair is dedicated to research, training and disseminating the benefits of coexisting with animals for human health and well-being.
Its aim is to improve well-being and coexistence between people and pets. In order to achieve this, it carries out activities and projects with three fundamental objectives:
- Research
Carrying out in-depth studies of the relationship between pets and humans. - Dissemination
Increasing awareness of the benefits for people of coexisting with animals, with a special emphasis on the results of research work promoted by the department. - Training
Promoting new programmes and participating in some existing ones aimed at training Health Science professionals in all aspects of the relationship between pets and people.
Areas of knowledge:
- Nature of the relationship between people and pets.
- Health and quality of life benefits of coexisting with animals.
- Therapeutic value of animals for people.
